Senior Software Engineer

Summary

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer with a proven track record of designing, building, and maintaining complex, enterprise-grade software systems. This role is for engineers who have spent years working on real production applications — navigating scale, complexity, tradeoffs, and long-term maintainability. You’ll be trusted to make architectural decisions, establish best practices, and help shape how software is built across teams. We value strong engineering fundamentals, sound judgment, and a history of delivering durable systems over chasing specific tools or trends.

Key Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional experience building and maintaining production software systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working on enterprise or large-scale applications with real users and long lifecycles.
  • Strong background in software architecture, system design, and long-term maintainability.
  • Experience establishing or following engineering standards, patterns, and best practices.
  • Ability to reason about tradeoffs involving scalability, performance, reliability, and complexity.
  • Proven history of owning critical systems or major portions of an application.
  • Strong understanding of how teams, processes, and codebases evolve over time.
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A portfolio, case studies, or work history that demonstrates depth and impact.

Description

As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll be a key contributor in shaping how we design and deliver software at Leman Atelier.

You will:

● Design and evolve application architectures that are clean, scalable, and resilient.

● Contribute hands-on to critical areas of the codebase while maintaining a high bar for quality.

● Define and reinforce engineering standards, patterns, and best practices.

● Review designs and code with an eye toward long-term health, not just short-term delivery.

● Collaborate closely with product, design, and leadership to translate business goals into sound technical solutions.

● Identify risks early and help teams avoid costly architectural mistakes.

● Mentor engineers through example, feedback, and thoughtful technical discussion.

● Leverage modern tools, including AI where appropriate, to improve productivity without sacrificing quality.

This role requires strong technical judgment, real-world experience, and the confidence to make decisions that will stand the test of time.

Nice to Have

  • Experience modernizing or refactoring legacy systems.
  • Background working in regulated, high-availability, or mission-critical environments.
  • Experience leading technical initiatives across teams or departments.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and distributed systems.
  • Comfort evaluating new technologies and deciding when *not* to adopt them.
  • Experience guiding teams through periods of growth or architectural change.

What Success Looks Like

  • Systems are thoughtfully designed, well-documented, and resilient to change.
  • Architectural decisions reduce long-term complexity rather than accumulate it.
  • Engineering standards are consistently applied and understood across the team.
  • Projects ship with fewer surprises and less rework.
  • The codebase remains understandable and maintainable as it grows.
  • Engineering teams trust and rely on your technical judgment.

If you’ve built real systems, care deeply about craftsmanship, and take pride in leaving codebases better than you found them, we’d love to talk.
