Industry Expert Consultant
Summary
We’re looking for experienced industry experts to consult on software and AI projects within their domain of expertise. This role is focused on translating real-world industry knowledge into clear product requirements, workflows, features, and constraints that engineering teams can implement with confidence. You’ll work closely with our product and engineering teams to ensure the software we build reflects how your industry truly operates — not assumptions or generic models. We value deep, niche expertise and are especially interested in specialists from highly regulated, complex, or underserved industries.
Key Qualifications
- 10+ years of hands-on experience within a specific industry or niche domain.
- Proven subject-matter expertise in how work is actually performed in your field (processes, workflows, edge cases, constraints).
- Experience advising on or contributing to software, digital tools, platforms, or systems used in your industry.
- Ability to clearly articulate business rules, operational requirements, and real-world scenarios to technical teams.
- Comfort collaborating with product managers, engineers, and designers.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to think critically about how AI and automation could (or should not) be applied within your industry.
Description
As an Industry Expert Consultant, you’ll serve as a critical bridge between real-world operations and software implementation.
You will:
● Provide deep insight into industry-specific workflows, terminology, constraints, and best practices.
● Help define functional requirements, edge cases, and business rules for software and AI systems.
● Review and validate proposed features to ensure they align with real-world usage.
● Identify gaps, risks, or unrealistic assumptions in product ideas before development begins.
● Advise on compliance, regulatory, or operational considerations relevant to your industry (where applicable).
● Collaborate with product and engineering teams during discovery, planning, and iteration phases.
● Help prioritize features based on actual industry value and impact.
● Provide feedback on early prototypes, workflows, or AI-driven concepts.
This is a project-based consulting role, ideal for seasoned professionals who want to influence how modern software is built for their industry.
Nice to Have
- Experience working with startups, software agencies, or product teams.
- Prior consulting or advisory experience.
- Exposure to AI, automation, or data-driven systems within your industry.
- Experience in highly regulated or complex environments (e.g., finance, healthcare, logistics, legal, energy, manufacturing).
- Ability to provide real-world examples, scenarios, or case studies from your career.
- Interest in shaping the future of tools used in your industry.
What Success Looks Like
- Engineering teams have a clear, accurate understanding of industry workflows and constraints.
- Requirements are well-defined, reducing rework and misalignment during development.
- Software features reflect real-world usage, not generic assumptions.
- AI features are applied thoughtfully, responsibly, and where they provide genuine value.
- Product decisions are informed by expert insight rather than guesswork.
- The final product resonates with actual users in the industry.
If you have deep expertise in a specific industry and want to help shape the next generation of software and AI tools built for it, we’d love to work with you.
